Weight loss injections on the NHS

Posted on:

As patients are aware weight loss injections called GLP-1 (such as Ozempic or Mounjaro) as of the 23rd June are available on the NHS.

We understand many patients will be interested in these but please be aware the 1st cohort for 12 months as set by the NHS guidelines has a strict criteria so unless you fit into the following you cannot be prescribed these.

Who is eligible for Mounjaro via NHS?

• have a BMI of over 40

• and four out of five of the following conditions: type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, heart and vascular disease, high cholesterol and obstructive sleep apnoea

We completely understand that managing weight is difficult, and we are here to help and support- whether or not medication is part of the plan.

Please don’t contact us for the weight loss injections as yet as we currently haven’t been given direction who will be providing this. We are waiting for updates. It maybe a specialist weight service rather than going through a GP. We know this will be frustrating for some patients. We will update you of any changes as we receive updates.
