Minor Illness Clinics
These clinics are for urgent medical conditions that cannot wait until the next available routine appointment.
Please understand that this will be a brief consultation to deal with the immediate problem only – if you have other matters to discuss once the immediate problem has been dealt with, you should make a routine appointment.
Please do not use this time to request a sick note, complete a form or for other non-medical matters, as these can all be dealt with in routine time.
Nurse & Healthcare Assistant Clinics
Based at the surgery they provide general nursing care e.g. blood tests, blood pressures, dressings, injections, suture removals etc. They also run clinics for conditions such as asthma, heart disease and diabetes. Additionally some of our nurses have extra training and skills enabling them to deal with a wide range of minor illnesses and acute problems.
From April 2025 the Filey Surgery are taking steps to call patients for their annual reviews during their birthday month. During the first 18 months you might be called earlier, later or twice in a year to bring you in-line.
Specialist Clinics
Diabetes
Full check ups are regularly offered to our diabetic patients and invitations are sent out via our computerised recall system. Our specially trained practice nurses carry out these clinics.
Asthma/Respiratory
A check up is offered at least once a year with one of our specialist respiratory nurses. To maximise the benefit of your medication, they will review any current medication and check inhaler technique.
Coronary Heart Disease
It is vital that patients with heart disease have regular blood pressure checks, cholesterol checks and medication reviews. Reviews are carried out at least once a year, but may be more frequent if necessary.
HRT
Women who are taking hormone replacement therapy will be invited for a check up annually.
Blood Pressure/Hypertension
Patients with a history of high blood pressure for which they take medication need to have their blood pressure monitored and a blood test done annually.
